Zonzelle
Zonzelle are basically fried bread dough.
I’ve prepared them for my boyfriend’s birthday dinner.
It’s fried that it coulnd’t be more fried, but for a special occasion you can turn a blind eye!
Quantities are abundant, as we basically dined with those and we were 5.
Ingredients:
– 1 kg flour
– 2 cubes of yeast
– 500 g of warm water
– 2 tablespoons of salt
– 1 teaspoon sugar
– Oil for frying
Method:
Put the flour in large bowl and mix with salt and sugar.
Dissolve yeast in water and add it to the flour.
Mix well with a fork, and when the dough is too thick, knead with hands until it becomes a smooth and homogeneous ball.
Cover with a cloth and allow it to rise for at least 2 hours in a dry and sheltered place (I put the bowl in the oven).
When the dough has risen, roll it out a little at a time and cut it into small pieces, not too large.
Now fry the zonzelle in hot oil for few minutes until they are puffed and golden.
Too good!

I know these!! It’s a typical Tuscan dish, which in every city has a different name (I know them as Coccole, Donzelle for instance)…they goes very well with vegan cheese, as if they’re hot the cheese melts with the contact…so yummy!!!
The name’s interesting! sounds really italian
maybe with some veg milk to replace a percentage water they will come out even smoothier?
