Sour-sweet Seitan

My mom had defrosted some seitan and in the fridge there were some pickled onions … very good but so strong … we needed to soften their taste a little!

I had never prepared a sour sweet dish, and beside from the Chinese ones, never even eaten; therefore I’m not even sure I could call this sour-sweet:-)
However it is super easy and fast, while eating it my mom stole the onions from the my brother’s plate 🙂

(serves 2)
200 gr of seitan
2 medium onions in vinegar
3 teaspoons of sugar
soy sauce as needed
2 tablespoons of balsamic vinegar

Cut seitan into strips and put them to marinate in a plate with chopped onions, chopped rosemary, soy sauce and hot water to cover the seitan itself, for about 10 minutes (the longer it remains there, the more tasty it will be, but I am pretty impatient!)
Fry the onions in the pan with a tablespoon of oil and sugar … until they get nicely caramelized.
Add the seitan strips and the marinade, add the balsamic vinegar and cook until it dries very well … since I put too much water I had, eventually, to remove the strips one by one and let the onion sauce thicken … Mix a bit of sauce with seitan, and put aside a little of it to decorate.
Voila’, ready!
I swar it was reeeeeally good!

I’m always interested in sweet-and-sour dishes! This one with roseamry looks delicious 🙂 Onions are excellent for “sour-sweeting”
