Seitan Sea Sticks

I probably invented the “hot water”, and someone of you had already “created” them: basically they’re the revised (veganized) version of the famous bearded captain’s sticks. Their flavor is very good, and the preparation is simple. If you have the breadcrumbs and you’re willing to, you may also prepare a kind of batter even more similar to the original, maybe adding some turmeric to give it the famous yellow-ish colour.

Ingredients:
(makes 6 sticks)
Seitan (I had a piece the size of a fist)
1 sheet of nori seaweed
1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil + more oil if you want to fry them

Method:
Take the sheet of nori seaweed and toast it: I have an electric hob, and it was pretty simple, I kept the nori at a safe distance from the”fire”, but close enoughto make it “feel” the heat. I mean…I don’t want do make a short story long, the point is that once it’s toasted it crumbles. Be careful, you can’t skip this step at all: if the nori is not toasted, it does not crumble and then you’ll have a lot of “fun” to crumble it. … In a mixer I blended the crumbled seitan with seaweed and a little oil. With the mixture form the sticks, which you’ll pass in the batter you like.

Then, fry them (or bake in the oven or grill in a no stick pan or whatever you want!). As I said, the taste is very good, gentle and would pull the other one would lead the other!

    these are interesting. yes, I think that with the “right” batter they would definitive resemble the originals

    Thanks! The flavour was really delicate, they tasted of sea but not too much. really good, next time Ill try also maybe mixing tofu with seitan, they should come out softer. Let’s see!

    Seem yummy, I’d try them as bites as well, or as a filling for appetizers or similar things – actually can be used in a lot of way
