Savoury Sfogliatellas

And here’s the savoury version of curly neapolitan Sfogliatellas! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Too good to be left unposted!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Ingredients:
sfogliatellas (see Curly Neapolitan Sfogliatellas recipe)
vegetables according to your personal taste

Ingredients for stuffing:
soy ricotta cheese (here or vegan ricotta here)
1 pinch of salt
tomato sauce
1 red onion
Sicilian oregano
nutmeg
mix of black, white, green and pink pepper
green “Nocellara” olives from Belice (Sicily)
extra virgin olive oil
water

Method:
For the sfogliatellas, please have a look at my previous post “Curly Neapolitan Sfogliatellas”, as the dough’s taste is neutral it can be used for preparing both sweet and savoury versions of sfogliatella…
For the stuffing, prepare a vegan ricotta following the recipe that you prefer and let it harden into the fridge. In a pan let simmer 1 onion with a bit of water and extra virgin olive oil, until it becomes very soft, then add the tomato sauce, oregano, pepper and nutmeg and cook until the sauce gets narrow. Once ready add the olives cut into pieces and let cool to room temperature. When it’s properly cool add the ricotta and a pinch of salt, stirring until everything has amalgamated. At this point stuff the sfogliatellas with a teaspoon of ricotta/tomato filling, and close it as on the “Curly neapolitan Sfogliatellas” description. The left over filling can be used for seasoning a good homemade pasta! Or also for everything you want! It’s up to you…


Since I had spent all my time in preparing both the dough and the filling I could not prepare a worthy vegetables ๐Ÿ™ … also I had finished the salad!!! Unfortunately I had to resort to a “frozen and off season expedient”! which is not the thing for me ๐Ÿ™ Unfortunately it happens…ย Artichoke in olive oil saves the situation! ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Ops, you did it again… YOU LEFT ME WITHOUT WORDS!!!! Honestly, I don’t like too much sweet stuff, of course I’d gladly taste your sweet sfogliatelle… but these intrigue me much more!! The filling seems to come from Heaven! Pure Sicily taste ๐Ÿ™‚
