Chocolate Hearts
For Valentine’s Day, but in fact at all times, these sweets are irresistible … and really easy to make!
Ingredients:
1 cup of walnuts
1 cup of pitted dates
4 tablespoons of cocoa or carob
a pinch of salt.
Method:
Mash the dates with cocoa and salt to reach a soft consistency. Add the walnuts and mix again, but leaving a few pieces not too small.
Give the mixture a heart shape, for instance by using moulds for ice cubes with an unusual shape, and place them in freezer for a few hours. Remove them from the moulds and serve. They can be stored in the freezer for a long time, always ready as a nibble when you need it.
Variations: Add orange peel and cinnamon to the mixture, or coconut, or a few drops of peppermint oil as an “After Eight” taste, or almond aroma. Also try with cardamom, ginger and black pepper for some exquisitely spiced cakes.
