Hawai’i 4: Moky’s Donuts

Aloha! Listening to Jorma Kaukonen (legendary guitarist of the Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna) in “Genesis” from my Mac, I made these donuts, which I dedicate to my friend Moky, who sent me, from Arizona, these baking trays for donuts (or doughnuts) in two sizes.

(for 10 small donuts and 6 large)
2 cups of whole wheat flour (400 grams)
3/4 of a cup of sugar (120 grams)
2 teaspoons of baking powder
1 teaspoon of salt
1 tablespoon of margarine or oil
2 teaspoons of Egg Replacer
3/4 of a cup f soy milk (180 ml)
1 teaspoon of vanilla
1 pinch of  nutmeg
1 pinch of cinnamon

Preheat the oven to 180°C. In a bowl, pour all ingredients, mixing well.
Grease the baking tray for donuts and place the dough in each mould, filling it up to 2/3
Bake for 10 minutes…
…And enjoy listening to Jorma Kaukonen! Bye to all VegChef!

And since my holiday in Maui goes on, I want to share with you some more images. This is the cashier at the supermarket in Paia where we shop (Down to Earth). Her name’s Andrea and, besides being the cashier…

… she runs a free weekly workshop to explain vegetarian and vegan recipes, with practical demonstrations and tastings.

Here’s Andrea during the explanation.

Above the table, a mirror in installed, rotated to 45°, which allows you to see clearly the actions and steps without getting up or stretching your neck.

The class register …

At the end of the lesson I took the chance to distribute some VeganWiz brochures: a great opportunity, much appreciated by Andrea.

Emptying of rubbish bins. The truck, carrying one person only (the driver), took less than 4 minutes to clean out about 200 meters of the road (6-7 bins). This process was carried out at 15. In Milan, the truck has 3 people on board. It takes  at least 4-5 minutes to empty one bin, clogging the street. The process takes place between 7.30 and 8.00 am! No comment.

At Wailea, in a mall, with a sad look. It’s an appalling place (Wailea), for lazy and bored  wealthy pepole. A fake place, as can be found all over the world, with luxury hotel chains, 100 stars resorts, and worst than anything, oceanfront pool. Perhaps this is the image (distorted) that people have of Hawaii. Hawaii is also other than this! We stopped at the mall for a break…. obligatory. Anyway, even among the resorts /luxury hotel there is a passageway to the beach. Beaches here are open to everybody here too! Private beaches don’t exist.

And after all this… a greeting to all the VW chefs. Thanks to all those who read me, to those who leave me a comment, a thought, to those who follow me with interest and sympathy. Mahalo!

Rememering  that the answer is always this …

A hug to everyone!
