Happy Sausages
And here I am with the experiments of the weekend! 🙂
These in fact, in my imagination before cooking, should have been simple frankfurters; but at a first glance, after draining them, they looked like real sausages! Especially for the colour that seitan has taken with the vegan margarine: it looked like there were some small dots of fat under the film, just like in traditional sausages!
Ingredients:
(makes 6)
120 gr of pure gluten flour
2 forkfuls of vegetable margarine
1 teaspoon of salt
1 glass (about) of water
Method:
Melt margarine, add salt and gluten powder and stir.
Add water until the mixture can absorb it.
Rub the mixture with your hands and form some sausages (as you do for breadsticks), to a diameter of about 3 cm.
Cut an aluminum foil into squares, wrap the sausages (which you’ll slightly lengthen) and seal well the sides, so that the mixture is compact within the aluminum.
Cook them in boiling water for half an hour, over a low heat; drain them(when you open the aluminum be careful not to burn yourself!) and cook in a frying pan with oil and soy sauce, or on a grille (after brushing them with oil and soy sauce) .
This is what they look like internally:
Comment:
As you can see, the inside is not as compact as that of seitan sausages, but is slightly more porous. And you can see the brighter parts, quite similar to the greasy bits of pork sausages.
When I get myself into the kitchen I always decide to do as I want… and knowing the composition of pork sausages (i.e. high fat), and noticing that they don’t appear in most recipes on the web (or at least, they weren’t enough to match the animal product), I decided to experiment … and this is what I came out with! 🙂
I hope you’ll like them. Enjoy them!! 😀

OMG…quite impressive I must say. I haven’t tasted them of course but what about adding some herbs and spices? Traditional sausages are quite spiced and savoury
🙂 inspired by this sausages I made a nice and spicy salami yesterday!! I hope I can post it quite soon!!
